Patents for things you make, taken one step at a time
A patent takes years and the office decides. Kasra Rostami handles the first two steps at a flat fee, and tells you honestly where it gets bigger.
A provisional application holds your place for a year while you test the product, find buyers or raise money. A design patent protects how a product looks, such as a bottle, a tool handle or a lamp. Both are jobs Kasra quotes at a flat fee, once he’s seen drawings and heard how the thing works.
What I take on
- Provisional applications
- Design patent applications
- Patent searches before you spend on a filing
- Replies to the examiner’s rejections on filings he has made
- Confidentiality agreements for showing your product to others
A full utility application is a larger project. He scopes it with you in a call, quotes it in writing and tells you if he thinks the money would be better spent elsewhere. He doesn’t promise a patent will issue.
From sketch to filing
- 01
Step 1: Scoping call
Kasra hears how it works and asks what you’ve already shown or sold.
- 02
Step 2: Search
He looks for what already exists and tells you what’s left to claim.
- 03
Step 3: Drafting
He writes the application from your drawings, and you read every page.
- 04
Step 4: Filing
He files, sends you the receipt and puts your next deadlines on the calendar.
Patent questions I hear most
Should I talk to you before I show the product?
Yes, if you can. Selling or publicly showing an invention can start a clock on your rights. Call before the launch, not after.
Does a provisional application give me a patent?
No. It holds a filing date for a year. To go further you file a full application within that time.
Is a design patent the same as a utility patent?
No. A design patent protects appearance. A utility patent protects how a thing works. Each has its own process and cost.
Can I patent software or an app?
Sometimes. It depends on what it does and how it’s claimed. Kasra gives you a straight read in the scoping call.
Ask about your invention
Describe it in a few lines. I’ll route it to Kasra and you’ll hear back with a time for a scoping call.
